Orthodontic treatment is successful in finally giving you the smile you have always wanted. However, there are times when an accident occurs and your appliance gets broken or altered. When this happens, there are things you need to do to help the situation as much as possible. Today, our Smiley Dental Arlington team would like to help you with a broken bracket. So, if you’ve recently broken a bracket, we recommend doing the following things:

Check the damage
First, check to see if the bracket is still attached to the wire. If it is not, simply remove the bracket from your mouth, keep it in a safe place, and bring it into the office with you when you come in for your next appointment. We will glue it back into place if possible. If the bracket is still attached, keep it in place and stabilize it by putting orthodontic wax around it.

Take control
If you have a wire that is poking out of place, feel free to cut it. Do your best to clip the wire as close to the bracket as possible with a pair of fingernail clippers. If the tip of the wire is still a bit rough, cover it with orthodontic wax to keep it from harming your lips, cheeks, and tongue.

Make an appointment
It’s important to make an appointment as soon as you break your bracket. That way, your treatment time won’t be delayed and you won’t suffer from discomfort. When you call into our office, make sure you tell us what is going on so we can be prepared to help you when you come visit.

If you have a different problem that is not necessarily regarding a broken bracket, please call 682.558.8720 and schedule an appointment with Dr. . The sooner you come into our office, the sooner we’ll be able to fix your appliance. We look forward to helping you!
