Your child deserves to grow into a strong, healthy, and beautiful smile, but the only way that is possible is if you help them care for their oral health each day. If you’re not sure how to do so, our Smiley Dental Arlington team has some tips for you!

Properly clean the smile
It’s generally recommended to start cleaning your child’s teeth once the first pearly white grows into place. Clean your child’s newly grown teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste the size of a grain of rice. For children 3 to 6 years old, use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste. Make sure you brush your child’s teeth twice a day with the right tools. Also, when your child has two teeth grown in next to each other, please begin flossing.

Bring your child into our office
When your child’s first tooth grows into place, bring them into our office for their first dental appointment. This first appointment will involve the dentist examining the smile and giving you the tips you need to properly care for your child’s teeth. This is also a great time for you to ask questions.

Take advantage of fluoride
Fluoride is a natural mineral that strengthens and nourishes your child’s teeth. So, please use fluoride toothpaste when you clean your child’s smile each day, and take advantage of our fluoride treatment when you come into the office. This will help your child prevent tooth decay and other dental issues.

Avoid dental issues
Many people tend to put sugary drinks in their children’s bottles and dip the pacifiers in honey or sugar. Please do not do these things. These actions can promote tooth decay and other problems.
